The quarterly newsletter of the Vale Women's Business Network
The focus of our June event is Positive Self Presentation. Our guest speaker, Alastair Meikle, left his native Scotland after schooling to go to sea; thereafter he came ashore in Plymouth when he started work as a trainee shipbroker, moving to the City of London to qualify. Soon afterwards he returned to Edinburgh to work for one of the largest independently-owned merchant fleets.
He came to Cardiff in 1970, still working in shipping, until a complete change of direction saw him start a new career as a broadcaster and actor.
After many years with the BBC he was made redundant and started his own business, offering courses in public speaking and presentation skills. That has developed so that he now lectures on those skills at UWIC to undergraduates and MBA post-graduate students.
He also operates a chauffeur-driven private hire facility to the business and domestic markets for specifically long distance travel. His hobbies include wood carving, Scuba diving and flying kites.
