Are you for or against the Euro?
What is the impact of the Euro, now and in the future on your bsuiness? Do you know the facts?
The 'Wales in Europe' campaign are kindly sponsoring our October event which will involve a panel of speakers who between them will give some 'Eurofacts', the case for the Euro and the case against. There will also be plenty of time for you to give your views and to ask questions - it promises to be a lively evening!
Those who argue 'for' the Euro feel that "Wales' prosperity depends on Britain's positive role in Europe" and claim that up to 155,000 Welsh jobs depend on Europe, 70% of Welsh trade is with Europe and that many American and Japanese companies have come to Wales as a base to export across Europe. The argument is that it is not possible to reject the common currency without jeopardising our place in Europe.
'Opponents' feel that joining the Euro would involve extra taxes, would lead to people in this country paying for the pensions of people in other countries and above all would lead to a loss of economic control.
So what is your view? Do you feel that in the modern world we can afford to go it alone - or are we better off in Europe? Would Wales benefit by Britain choosing to join the Euro?
Join us for our event on Wednesday 16 October 2002, Committee Room 1, County Hall, Cardiff 6.30pm for a 7pm start until around 9pm and contribute to the debate or just find out a little more about both sides of the argument.
The evening will be introduced by the Vale Women's Business Network Chair, Roz Cooper, who will hand over the Chairing of the rest of the proceedings to Ruth Parry. Our first speaker will be Jill Evans, MEP, who will set the context for the evening by giving some information on women, equalities and Europe and then the debate will begin with Peter SainLey Berry of Euroconsulting who will give his perspectives as a business owner in the Vale and European specialist on the impact of the Euro.
There will be no charge for attendance at this meeting thanks to sponsorship from the Wales in Europe campaign.
